Day:111
This morning did not begin.
It revealed itself.
Softly.
Like a veil lifting.
Like something ancient deciding we were ready to see it.
The air felt different against my skin, thicker somehow, like it was holding memory. Like it knew what we were about to become inside of it.
We didn’t rush.
We didn’t reach.
We entered.
There is a rhythm living in us now that does not belong to urgency. It belongs to something older than survival. Something that understands timing the way the ocean understands the moon.
We are running out of time.
But not in fear.
In reverence.
So we moved accordingly.
Not fast.
Not frantic.
Just… aligned.
The car still sits broken.
Unmoved.
Unchosen.
Because today was not about fixing what pulls us outward, it was about tending to what is being built within.
The bathroom became the altar.
Paint like offerings.
Edges carved with intention.
Every stroke a quiet declaration:
We are still here.
We are still building.
We are still choosing this life.
He is downstairs, hands learning the language of wood and hinge, stepping into unfamiliar ground like a man who has decided growth matters more than comfort.
I am upstairs, moving through space like I’ve done this before, not here, not in this house, but somewhere deeper. Somewhere older. Like my body remembers how to rebuild even when my mind forgets.
And then, something breaks open.
Not in chaos.
In joy.
We begin to dance.
In the dust.
Particles of drywall and time suspended in sunlight, floating like constellations around us. The house, unfinished, echoes like a cathedral with no walls yet, just bones and breath and possibility.
We are laughing.
Not politely.
Not performatively.
But from the gut. From the place that only opens when you’ve known pain well enough to recognize joy when it arrives unannounced.
Paint on our skin.
Sweat at our backs.
Hair undone.
Eyes lit like something sacred has brushed past us.
We fall.
Of course we do.
Into the floor, into each other, into the kind of laughter that feels like it might split you open if you let it.
And I do.
I let it.
Because this…
this right here…
is the life I asked for when I didn’t even know how to ask.
“I think I’m hungry,” I say, like a child returning to her body.
And he looks at me like this, too, is sacred.
I break the rules I’ve been keeping.
An Arby’s sandwich. No fries. No soda. Just water. Just enough to anchor me back into something human.
Sauce at the edge of my lips, mid-bite, unrefined and fully seen, he hands me a napkin before I even notice.
Like he knows me before I know myself.
“I’m a lady,” I insist, mouth full, dignity long gone.
And still, he looks at me like I am something worth choosing.
Again.
And again.
And again.
I remember being sixteen.
Passenger seat of his old Oldsmobile.
The road stretching in front of us like prophecy.
We thought we were going somewhere.
We didn’t know…
we were becoming.
We return to the work.
Hardware store rituals. Last-minute pieces. The unnoticed details that hold entire worlds together.
Back to the house.
Back to the altar.
We place.
We press.
We secure.
And when we step back, it is good.
Not untouched.
Not flawless.
But true.
Good like hands that didn’t quit.
Good like love that stayed.
Good like something that chose to exist anyway.
Pride rises in me, unfamiliar and warm.
I let it stay.
I let it sit in my chest like a candle that doesn’t flicker under scrutiny.
I am proud of myself.
But what fills me deeper, is him.
Because I watched him cross the threshold of what he thought he couldn’t do and decide to do it anyway.
That is where transformation lives.
Not in perfection.
In willingness.
We deserve what is coming.
But we will not call it forward.
Because what is meant for us does not require announcement.
It arrives.
Quietly.
Like everything that matters.
We clean.
We always clean.
Not out of obligation but out of reverence.
Reset the space.
Honor the container.
Prepare the ground for what comes next.
And the house, the house hums.
Not finished.
Not complete.
But alive.
It holds us differently now.
As if it recognizes us as its creators.
As if it knows we did not just renovate it, we awakened it.
We leave in the middle of the afternoon.
Because we understand something now, completion is not exhaustion.
It is discernment.
We will return tomorrow.
There is always more.
Carpet to lay.
A car to fix.
A life that refuses to stop unfolding.
The children rest.
They do not yet understand the magnitude of what they are living inside of.
But one day, they will.
They will see that this life was not given.
It was transmuted.
And here is where the truth splits open.
Because the reason I can do this, the reason I can walk into something unfinished and see its completion, is not gentle.
It was not gifted softly.
It was carved into me.
I was raised in a world where noticing everything was the difference between safety and harm.
Where silence was not peace, it was surveillance.
Where mistakes were not small, they were dangerous.
I learned to see fractures before I learned to feel joy.
I learned to fix before I learned to rest.
And for years, I turned that power against myself.
Refining.
Correcting.
Erasing.
Until I became both the wound and the one tending to it.
And today, on the drive home something ancient inside me laughed.
Because I finally saw it for what it is.
My father, asking to be witnessed.
Holding up what he built, hoping no one would see what he could not fix within himself.
And me, the child who could see everything, pointing.
Naming.
Understanding.
Too well.
He taught me how to find the cracks.
But he never learned how to fill his own.
And I did.
I took the skill that was born from survival and I changed its purpose.
This is alchemy.
Not the kind in books.
The real kind.
The kind where pain is not erased, it is transformed.
Where awareness does not destroy you, it rebuilds you.
Where you stand in the ashes of everything that tried to take you out and you decide to create anyway.
This is power.
Not loud.
Not forceful.
Not needing to prove itself.
Power that sits quietly in the body and says, I know what this is now.
And I can feel it.
The shift.
The threshold.
Something unseen stepping closer.
Not as a question but as an arrival.
It is not asking if I am ready.
It knows I am.
And for the first time I am not reaching for it.
I am not chasing.
I am not trying to name it before it takes form.
I am letting it come.
Because the woman who was forged in the dark, knows how to recognize the light when it finally speaks.
So I stay.
Here.
In the dust that once choked me, now turned to gold in the air.
In the house that rose from our hands.
In the life that did not break me but revealed me.
And I build.
Like I always was meant to.
